At the core of Sunset Apartments is a mission grounded in faith and compassion. This unique facility shares the love of Jesus Christ by offering affordable housing options to those seeking a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. • THE DISTRICT TRICK OR TREATING RETURNS OCTOBER 25

    Hours Today: By appointment only

The District and Quincy Medical Group are hosting Trick or Treat in The District on Saturday, October 25 from 10am–1pm. First-Mid Bank & Trust Plaza–located at 7th & Maine–is the starting point and hub for the event. In addition to event check-in (10am-Noon), this is where Quincy Medical Group team members will be distributing information and assisting adults with accessing the digital map of the participating businesses. Children are encouraged to bring their own trick or treat bags.

New this year is a trunk or treat that will be held in the Plaza parking spaces. “Those participating in the trunk or treat are businesses and organizations that are ‘outlying’ District businesses—those businesses NOT located 4th to 10th Streets/Maine to Hampshire,” stated The District Executive Director Brianna Rivera. “We’ve added this because we know families generally do not leave the 4th-10th/Maine-Hampshire area of The District. This allows the businesses to participate and enjoy the event as well.”

As families are out and about trick or treating, parents who could use a pick-me-up are encouraged to stop by The Pour Haus, 628 Maine Street (back side of the building/alley entrance) to get a free cup of coffee. The free java is limited to one cup of drip coffee per parent and will be available from 10am-1pm.

The Plaza is where a variety of photo opportunities, including a digital photo booth, music provided by Lyon’s Pride, and a variety of entertainment will be found. First-Mid Bank employees will be handing out treats as well. Another location that families should be sure to visit is Washington Park, where the final 2025 Quincy Farmers Market will be taking place. “Our farmers and vendors enjoy getting to see the families and children and love to hand out treats or trinkets as well,” stated Rivera.

Many of The District Trick or Treat participating businesses will be Teal Pumpkin stops–they will offer non-food items. The event map will indicate which businesses are Teal Pumpkin stops.

  • Waylon Rhoads Jewelry

    Hours Today: By appointment only

At Waylon Rhoads Jewelry you will find the owner, Waylon, crafting one of a kind, personal, dream-come-true luxury jewelry. A true artist, Waylon chose to start his own business because, “I no longer wanted my labor and creativity to be owned and controlled by an employer.” For him, creating true heirloom-quality pieces—that are his blood, sweat, and tears—is very gratifying but does have its challenges. “Pricing my work in a way that is congruent with the value I created was, and still is, my biggest challenge, though I have gotten better at paying myself more.” For him, adaptability has been more important than growth.

Waylon understands that trust is earned through communication and action. “It’s better to make a product I can be proud of, than making $10 extra dollars in profit.” He has been in the jewelry industry for over 20 years now and has a global clientele base. “My jewelry has been purchased by people in 13 countries, across four continents, and 43 states in the US.” Loving what he creates and owning his business is very evident. “If you are willing to work 40+ hours a week for someone else, you’ll find working 60 hours a week for yourself much more fulfilling.”

“Always try to make the most expensive products you can. Don’t compete to make anything the cheapest way possible, you will always lose.”

    —Waylon Rhoads

Waylon takes pride in his artistry. “I’ve made a ring that sold for $80,000. I’ve sold over $1,000,000 worth of jewelry that have been made with my own two hands, and I have over 800 unique custom jewelry clients.” Additionally, this artist knows that every commodity has a range of values. “Always try to make the most expensive products you can. Don’t compete to make anything the cheapest way possible, you will always lose.”
