QUINCY, IL – Everyone is invited to The District’s Annual Light the Park ceremony! Come, join Santa Claus as he travels down Maine in his sleigh and wraps up the Rotary After Dark “Journey to the North Pole” themed Christmas parade and flips the switch to turn on the Christmas lights in Washington Park. Approximate time of the lighting of the park will be shortly after 7pm. This free community event is presented by TNT Golf Car & Motorsports and Craig Industries.
“Each year the Light the Park committee comes together to plan this wonderful family-focused event,” stated Executive Director of The District Brianna Rivera. “This year, new lighting displays will once again be added.” “We are very excited to partner with the Quincy Christmas Parade to offer a full evening of Holiday Magic!”
Adults and children alike will enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas during this event. In addition to visiting with Santa from 7-9pm, Light the Park attendees will enjoy free hot cocoa and cookies from Kohl Wholesale, live music will be provided by Quincy Concert Band Low Brass Ensemble, and character cutouts will be available for selfies. As a thank you to our volunteer partners, Quincy Art Center, Lorenzo Bull House, and The Quincy Museum, “Miracle on Maine” tickets will also be for sale, which takes place the following weekend.
As in years past, The District will once again encourage everyone who attends Light The Park to bring a new and unwrapped toy to donate to the Toys for Tots toy drive. “We know families are struggling and this is a simple way to help children have a wonderful Christmas,” stated Rivera. All who donate gifts will be entered to win one of two $30 District gift certificates.
Santa will return to Washington Park each Thursday in December–3, 10, and 17—5-7pm. “Santa in the Park gives children three additional opportunities to visit with Santa and for families to enjoy the festive atmosphere of the park throughout the weeks prior to Christmas,” stated Rivera.
